Anita Sumner of Blountstown a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was built around family, hard work, and caring for others. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 27, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of good memories and a family who will forever cherish her. Anita dedicated 45 years of her working life to the Florida Lottery and also served several years with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). She was a strong, hardworking woman who took pride in what she did, but her greatest accomplishments were the relationships she built along the way! To know her was to love her.
Anita enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. She loved spending time with family and friends, dancing, singing karaoke, and making memories on the houseboat they use to have out on the river. She was a proud FSU fan and enjoyed gathering at her sister Ilona’s house to watch football games. She also loved watching television, playing games on her phone, and spending time with her beloved dogs and birds. Family was the center of Anita’s world. She loved having everyone together and treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Those who knew Anita will remember her for her generous heart and the way she always looked out for others. She believed in helping people, not judging them. Regardless of someone’s circumstances or struggles, Anita was willing to give what she could and offer a helping hand. If someone was hungry, she made sure they had something to eat. She often put everyone else’s needs before her own and was always there when her family needed her. Her strength, compassion, and willingness to give without expecting anything in return were just a few of the qualities that made her special.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Milton (Mack) Mercer and Paula Mae Mercer; her grandparents, Lewis and Della Mercer, Alfred and Eldora Beck, and Lockie Larkins Beck (her maternal grandmother); her brother, A.W. Beck, and his wife, Myrtice Beck; her sister, Ilona Pitts; and her beloved granddaughter, Lacey Ammons.
Anita leaves behind her six children: Sambo Ammons, Lisa Ammons, Tammy Ammons, Jeff and his wife Shannon Ammons, Jace Ammons, and Jaret Ammons. She is also survived by her three sisters, Maxine Mercer, Lawanna Bradley, and Donifan Anders; and her two brothers, Tony and his wife Sherryl Mercer, and Bryan and his wife Samantha Mercer. Her beloved grandchildren include Dylan Ammons, Demi Ammons, Tanner Ammons, Ava Frost, Michael and his wife Patricia Ammons, Christopher Collins, Dustin Manning, Jett Ammons, Hunter Ammons, Holly Ammons, Ashton Ammons, Ricky Ammons, Aiden Ammons, Chezney Ammons, and Jansen Ammons. She also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2026 at The Gathering Place in Bristol with Dusty Arnold officiating.
Anita’s life was a reflection of the love she gave to others. Her memory will live on in her family, laughter, music, dancing, football games, and the many stories that will continue to be shared for years to come. Anita spent her life taking care of everyone else, always putting others before herself. Now it is time for her to rest. She will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
