Georgia Lee Pelt Barbee, a cherished figure in her community and a dedicated educator, departed from this world on June 14, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on December 24, 1950, in Marianna, Florida, Georgia's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to physical education and the empowerment of young women in sports.

For 40 years, Georgia taught physical education at Calhoun County Schools, leaving an indelible mark on countless students’ lives. Her passion for athletics was evident as she pioneered the first girls' softball program and later established the girls' volleyball program. She was also instrumental in coaching girls' track and field, fostering not only athletic skills but also confidence and teamwork in her students. Her commitment to education went beyond the classroom, instilling values of hard work and perseverance in all who had the privilege of being her student.

Georgia was an accomplished athlete herself, having obtained her bachelor’s degree while competing on the tennis team at both Chipola and the University of West Florida. This early dedication to sports set the foundation for her lifelong advocacy for athletics, particularly among young women.

Georgia was extremely generous and full of grace, and had a passion for cooking and feeding everyone, qualities that endeared her to many. She cultivated relationships that spanned generations, becoming a respected mentor and friend to students, fellow educators, and members of her community.

Georgia is survived by her loving family, including her sons, Jim Barbee and his wife Lindsay, and Matthew Barbee. She is also survived by her mother, Myrtle Pelt; sister, Donna Maloy, and her husband Mike; and her cherished grandchildren, Brant and Maelyn Barbee who lovingly knew her as Granny Shot.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Barbee, her father, James Pelt, and her grandparents, Willie and Pearlie Martin and Joseph and Georgia Pelt. Georgia's legacy of love, education, and compassion will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
