Gareld Nelson Blackwell, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Clarksville, Florida, surrounded by loved ones on February 15, 2026. Born on December 15, 1929, in Mitchell, Indiana, Gerald led a fulfilling life dedicated to family, nature, and adventure.
As a Forest Ranger, Gareld spent his career protecting and preserving the beauty of the great outdoors, a passion that undoubtedly contributed to his love for hunting and fishing. He found joy and serenity in the wilderness, experiences that he eagerly shared with his family and friends.
Gareld was a dedicated and loving father to his sons, Gary Blackwell and Harry Blackwell, and his daughters, Sherry Shafer, Cindy Blackwell, Cathy Hall, Theresa Sawyer, Michelle Ward, and Tammie Salonen. The legacy he leaves behind is enriched further by a host of grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita Blackwell, who had been his partner in adventure and life. Gareld is also mourned by the memory of his daughter, Tina Blackwell, and his parents, Williams Owen Todd and Minnie Todd, along with four brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service to honor Gareld's life will be held 10:00 AM, February 21, 2026, at Word of Truth in Blountstown and a time of visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Poplar Head Cemetery in Clarksville.
Gareld will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and the unyielding love he held for his family. His spirit lives on in the memories and stories that will be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
