Peggy Dianne Shuler

January 6, 1957 — March 30, 2026

Peggy Dianne Shuler passed away on March 30, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida, at the age of 69.

Peggy was born in Blountstown, Florida, a place that remained deeply meaningful to her throughout her life. She was the daughter of Mittie and Thad Pate and Hasten and Annette Bennett.

Peggy spent a significant part of her life in Newberry, South Carolina, where she lived for over 35 years. There, she dedicated herself to serving others, first as a middle and high school teacher in Reading, English, and Science at Newberry Academy, and later as the Human Resources Director at Newberry College. She was deeply committed to her students and her community, showing up not only in the classroom but in the lives of those she taught. Years later, former students would still remember “Ms. Shuler,” a reflection of the lasting impact she made.

Peggy was intelligent, determined, and resilient. She worked multiple jobs to put herself through Auburn University, a place she loved dearly. She often shared stories of her time there, proudly recalling that she attended alongside Bo Jackson and Charles Barkley and gave tours of the Haley Center. Auburn football remained one of her lifelong joys.

Above all, Peggy was a devoted mother. She is survived by her two children, Daniel Shuler of Newberry, South Carolina, and Megan Marshall Yarbrough (husband, Jay Yarbrough) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She loved her children unconditionally and sacrificially, always putting them first and doing everything she could to give them a better life. She was present for every moment that mattered, and her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

Peggy had a sharp wit and a warm sense of humor, often expressed through her sarcasm and quick remarks. She loved being outdoors, whether working in the yard, sitting in the sun, or spending time near the Gulf of Mexico, which she cherished. She found simple joy in sitting outside at the end of the day, enjoying the sunshine, college football, and a light beer.

She is also survived by her siblings Teresa Johnson, Lynn Hamlin (husband, Jamie), Loraine McClellan (husband, Hiram), Kerby Bennett (wife, Robie), Curtis Bennett (wife, Jessie), and Glenn Bennett (wife, Stephanie). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sherry Kay Sangster and Janet Pate.

In her final months, Peggy returned to Blountstown, where she was surrounded by family. That time was deeply meaningful to her and to those who loved her.

A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at Blountstown Community Church on March 31 at 2:00 p.m.
