Rachel Marintha Worthington, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on May 8, 1954, in Moultrie, Georgia, Rachel was a woman who embraced life with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family and the community she cherished.
Known affectionately as a “crossword queen” and a proud member of the “grammar patrol,” Rachel had a remarkable command of language and a keen eye for detail. She delighted in words—solving puzzles with ease and gently (and sometimes not so gently) correcting those around her. Her intelligence was matched by her humility; though she was exceptionally bright, she never sought the spotlight.
Reserved by nature, Rachel expressed her love not through grand gestures, but through steady presence, thoughtful conversations, and unwavering loyalty. She was a constant source of comfort and strength to her family, whom she cherished above all else.
Rachel is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Worthington, who stood by her side through the years they shared together. She was the proud mother of two sons, Anthony and Patrick, who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Rachel’s close-knit family also includes her brothers Rueben Walker, Bill Walker, Tim Walker and his wife Sharon, Dexter Walker and his wife Elizabeth, as well as her sisters Naomi Paramore and her husband Mike, Becky Spencer and her husband Bill, Theresa Connell, and Susan Gregory.
Her nurturing presence extended to her grandchildren Christina, A.J., Payton, Rhys, Jaylen, and Arabella, who were fortunate to experience her love and wisdom. Rachel's great-grandchild, Luna, was likewise blessed by her gentle guidance and affectionate spirit. All of whom will forever hold dear the memories of her quiet wisdom, subtle humor, and the love she gave so faithfully.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethelene Walker, and her sisters Euletha May, Arlene, and Wilma. Their memory remains a treasured part of her life story, and they rest together in eternal peace.
A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Rachel’s life will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Capital Heights Baptist Church, located at 7150 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida with internment to follow at Tallahassee National Cemetery. A time of visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather and pay their respects to a woman whose life touched so many hearts.
Rachel will be remembered for her enduring kindness, her unwavering commitment to family, and the countless moments of joy and love she shared with all who knew her. Her legacy is one of profound love and lasting impact, a beacon of light that will continue to shine through the lives of her surviving loved ones.
