Sherman Champion, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 4, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born on February 5, 1937, in Bonifay, Florida, to Harvey and Ledy Champion. Sherman lived a full life marked by kindness, love, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
A proud veteran, Sherman served his country with honor, demonstrating the same commitment and courage in his personal life. He was known for his kindhearted nature and his willingness to offer a helping hand to those in need. Sherman’s genuine warmth and love for family were evident in everything he did, making him a beloved figure to all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Kim Stockdale and her husband Roger, Debbie Dickey, and Melinda Pelt; his sons, Rick Champion, Sherman Champion Jr., Todd Champion, and George Pelt Jr.; his brother, Carlton Champion and his wife Sue; and his sisters, Audrey Terry and Stella Hough. Sherman took great pride in his family, which includes eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who will remember him fondly.
Sherman is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Champion; his mother, Ledy Champion; his brothers, Leon Champion and Doyle Champion; his sister, Betty Mayesai; and his great-grandson, Easton Stockdale. These family members can now reunite with Sherman in eternal rest.
A graveside service to honor Sherman will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Pine Memorial Cemetery beginning at 2:00 PM with full military honors. Sherman's legacy of love and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
