Shirley Lee Newton, a beloved member of her community and cherished family matriarch, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, in Panama City, Florida, surrounded by the love of her husband. Born on August 13, 1937, Bragg City, Missouri she lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and a deep commitment God and helping others.
Shirley devoted several years of her career as a certified nursing assistant, where she touched countless lives with her dedicated and gentle care. Her generous spirit extended well beyond her professional life; she was known for being kind and considerate, consistently going out of her way to support and uplift those around her.
In her leisure time, Shirley found joy in many hobbies. She loved doing ceramics and spent countless hours nurturing her yard, creating a beautiful haven for herself and her loved ones. Shirley had a particular love for bird watching, often finding peace and comfort in connecting with nature.
Shirley was a loving wife to her husband, Johnnie Newton, and together they created a warm and welcoming home. She is survived by her son, Allen Newton and his wife Kim; her daughters, Cynthia Skipper and her husband Greg, and Deena Jones and her husband Gene; as well as six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom were immensely important to her and to whom she imparted her values of kindness and generosity.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lexie Allen; her daughter, Penny Lynn Roberts; her brother, Larry Allen; and her sisters, Francis Mayberry, Lonell Hunt, and Theodora Allen. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she has left behind.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on July 14, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the West Side Baptist Church in Wewahitchka. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 2:00 PM with Reverend Derrick Gerber and Reverend Dudley Balmer officiating. Interment will follow in Buckhorn Cemetery in Wewahitchka.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy filled with love, compassion, and a commitment to caring for others. She will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
